Privacy: what never to paste
Treat an AI chat like a public space unless your institution provides an approved, private tool.
Never paste
- Passwords, OTPs or bank details
- ID numbers (national ID, passport, PAN, social security and similar)
- Other people’s personal information
- Unpublished research data, exam papers or confidential documents
- Private conversations or screenshots
Safer habits
- Replace names with roles ("Student A", "Company X")
- Remove numbers that identify a person or organisation
- Check the tool’s settings for chat history and training options
- Use your institution’s approved tools for sensitive work
